Reporting to: Business Manager

Job brief

We are looking for a part time Roaster to prepare and roast different types of single origin and prepare post blend coffees for both espresso and filter coffees.

Using Cropster software Roaster's responsibilities include: organising and maintaining the Roastery in Zermatt (Switzerland), creating & optimising roasting profiles together with Marián; roasting coffees to perfection, preparing & managing Green Beans; and optimising Roasted Bean storage, resting and packing techniques implementation using automatic scale and belt sealer. To be successful in this role, you should have work experience as a Roaster and be able to create profiles, implement and keep up with pre and post quality control. Organise cupping sessions (and assimilate the cupping results using Cropster Cup. 

Ultimately, you will make sure we offer fresh and delicious perfectly roasted coffee to our customers on a consistent basis.

Responsibilities

All of the below using Cropster 

  • Ordering green coffee inventory with preferred green bean suppliers  
  • Operating a 12kg Diedrich IR-12 & 2.5kg Diedrich sample roaster 
  • Creating and optimising roasting profiles
  • Assist with creating new recipes and blends of coffee when required
  • Roasting and fulfilling coffee orders
  • De-stoning roasted coffee
  • Assist with bagging & sealing roasted coffee
  • Sample roasting & cupping new coffees
  • Assist with delivering coffee orders
  • Assist with placing/receiving product orders
  • Utilising Cropster software for roasting, scheduling and order management
  • Organise and maintain the roastery
  • Organise and maintain the green bean stock
  • Clean, protect and maintain all equipment

Requirements

  • Must have at least 12 months of experience in roasting
  • Familiarity with roasting machines of different types especially Diedrich Roasters 2,5kg, 12kg, 
  • Required 1 year of barista experience
  • SCA education preferred, but not required
  • Understanding of food safety practices
  • Experience in operating Cropster Roasting Intelligence program
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word & Excel
  • Must be motivated, dependable, and detail-oriented
  • Self-starter attitude, must be creative in staying productive
  • Team spirited and flexible can-do attitude
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Fluent in English and a strong working knowledge in German
  • Interest in specialty coffee and growing with a company
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff
  • Willingness to go above and beyond expectations
